Prof. Allan Tung of Chem. Eng. Invited to be the Editor of Journal S&PT

Prof. Kuo-Lun (Allan) Tung (童國倫) of Chemical Engineering is invited to be the Editor of Journal Separation and Purification Technology (S&PT) published by Elsevier starting from Jan. 1st, 2021. This is the second time that Prof. Ting is praised by international recognition of his academic performance since he was invited to be the Editorial board member of Journal of Membrane Science (JMS) published by Elsevier in August 2020.

Journal S&PT is the leading journal in the field of separation technology with 5.774 points in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor this June (2020), and the impact factor keeps growing up to 6.2 this December (2020). Journal S&PT is the combination of Journal Gas Separation and Purification (first published in 1990) and Journal Separations Technology (first published in1993) in 1997, publish by Elsevier and renamed to Journal Separation and Purification Technology (S&PT) until now. The current Editor-in-Chief is Prof. Bart van der Bruggen from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the founding chairman of World Association of Membrane Societies (WA-MS). 8 Editors are international well-known scholars from Europe, America, Asia, and Australia. What’s worth mentioning is that the journal founder of Separations Technology in 1993 is Prof. Chi Tien (田棋) of Syracuse University, who is the 6th graduate of NTU Chemical Engineering in 1952. After almost 30 years later, it is Prof. Tung, who was also the graduate of NTU Chemical Engineering that is invited to be the Editor of the Journal, which shows a special heritage significance.

Prof. Tung has devoted to the research of international membrane filtration and separation for a long time, and his research has attracted the attention of the international membrane filtration and separation academia. In this particular field, Prof. Tung is not praised with the honor to be the editor of Journal S&PT, he has also been selected as the first Asian council member of The Filtration Society, UK in2008-2011. Prof. Tung is now the Vice Chair of The International Water Association (IWA) and elected as 2019 IWA fellow. In the International Membrane Conference (ICOM) held in London at the end of this year (2020), Prof. Tung was even invited to be the scientific committee member. At the same time, Prof. Tung is the Chairman of International Conference on Inorganic Membranes (ICIM) in 2020, which he has fought for Taiwan in 2016 ICIM in Georgia, USA to host the world conference for the first time for more than 30 years. Due to the impact of the epidemic, the exhibition will be postponed to June, 2022 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Prof. Bart van der Bruggen, the Editor-in-Chief of S&PT mentions that S&PT has increased its international influence every year, the numbers of submissions have been rising rapidly in recent years, especially in membrane filtration and separation technology. As Prof. van der Bruggen inquires the international influential scholars in this field from the Editors, Prof. Tung is recommended as the new Editor of Elsevier journal headquarters. After evaluation and interview, Prof. Tung becomes one of the new Editors chosen to join the group and will be hired officially starting from Jan. 1st, 2021. Prof. van der Bruggen mentions that the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor of the journal this year (2020) is 5.774, and it grows to 6.2 at the end of the year. It is expected to grow to 6.5 in June, 2021. As Prof. Tung joins the Editor group, Prof. van der Bruggen is confident that the impact factor of S&PT will be increased in the future.
