NTUCOE Wins the 1st Place Award in 2021 Electromechanical Creative Implementation Competition for Colleges and Universities

Chengde Science and Technology Education Foundation (財團法人臺中市澄德科技教育基金會) held the award ceremony for “2021 Electromechanical Creative Implementation Competition for Colleges and Universities” on Dec. 6th, 2021 in Taichung. The team “Welfare Bear Fruit Explorer” (福利熊水果探險隊) led by Professor Yao-Yang Tsai (蔡曜陽) of Mechanical Engineering, NTU wins the first-place award.

Over 300 teams from 50 colleges and universities participated the competition, with only 16 teams get into the finals. The first three places are won by the teams of National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. The special sponsor award from Minchuen Electrical Machinery Co., Ltd (明樁電機) is won by the team of National Cheng Kung University. The awards are presented by Bruce Linghu (令狐榮達), Deputy Mayor of Taichung, Chen-Sheng Yang (楊振昇), Director General of Education Bureau of Taichung City Government, and President Bing-Jean Lee (李秉乾) of Feng Chia University with hundreds of attendees.

The winning team gets the first-place award with the work “Intelligent Electrode Design for Sculpture EDM”. The research team states that the pre-operation of EDM is time-consuming and requires manual operation and experience to draw electrode graphs. In this research, they use the geometric and topological information to establish feature detection algorithm to achieve automatic generation of electrode mapping files.

Chairman Qiuzhu Zhou (周秋祝) of Chengde Science and Technology Foundation says that the vision of the foundation is to establish a platform to assist the electromechanical related industries in talent cultivation, transformation and upgrading, and to effectively integrate the resources of the industry and academia, to make MIT products and inventions continue to shine worldwide. The purpose of holding a national competition is to realize the great vision, and to encourage teachers and students in colleges and universities to apply their theory to practice, implement electromechanical technology in product innovation, and cultivate professional talents with teamwork spirit.
