On May 19th, National Taiwan University (NTU) signed an agreement with C SUN Mfg., Ltd., Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. (GPM), and Gallant Micro. Machining Co., Ltd. (GMM) for the joint donation of NTD $10 million per year for 10 years to fund the Academic Award of the College of Engineering. The award will assist current faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding research and collaboration between industry and academia as they further their academic careers.

NTU stated that the purpose of the award is to help mid-career faculty members who already have a foundation of academic achievements to continue working towards prestigious awards such as the Ministry of Science and Technology's Outstanding Research Award. Since its inception in 2020, the award has provided around 10 selected teachers with funding of NTD $150,000 each per year. With the help of the recent donation, the maximum award amount will be increased starting this year in 2022.

As of now, three of our faculty members who have received the Academic Award have subsequently received the Ministry of Science and Technology's Outstanding Research Award. Now, with the long-term support of C SUN, GPM, and GMM, we will be able to grant three awards each year, and the award amount will be increased to NTD $300,000 per recipient. In addition, the honors of "C SUN Outstanding Scholar," "GPM Outstanding Scholar," and "GMM Outstanding Scholar" will be conferred to each recipient, respectively.

NTU would like to give special thanks to C SUN, GPM, and GMM for their wholehearted support in making this donation. In addition, NTU hopes to use this opportunity to produce a model for long-term contributions to build new bridges between industry and academia and maintain the possibility of further industry-academia cooperation or academic intercommunication in the future. NTU believes this will create a win-win situation for both industry and academia and encourage more enterprises to follow suit and support academic development.
