Distinguished Professor Dr. Liang-Chia CHEN Receives the 29th TECO AWARD

College of Engineering (COE) Distinguished Professor Dr. Liang-Chia CHEN (陳亮嘉) of Mechanical Engineering was awarded the 29th (2022) TECO AWARD, organized by the TECO Technology Foundation, in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Energy, and Environmental Technologies. As a leading enterprise in the private sector, TECO set up this award and seeks to recognize outstanding talents' efforts with this acknowledgment of honor. The award ceremony was held on October 29th, and TECO Technology Foundation Chair, Dr. Jwe-Son KUO (郭瑞嵩), delivered a speech for this special occasion. This year, seven outstanding winners received the TECO AWARD, including five scholars in the science and technology category. The industrial application of research has also proven fruitful, with 738 technology transfer projects and technology transfer funds totaling NT$2.3 billion in sum.

Prof. Chen is fully committed to the R&D in precision optical metrology and has continuously assisted domestic equipment makers in creating leading global technologies. In his professional career, he has established the AOI Equipment R&D Coalition (AOIEC), which consists of many labs in the academia, 48 AOI equipment manufacturers, and also end users. The Coalition aims to develop novel AOI technologies and systems for manufacturing processes, thus optimizing and sharpening the global competitiveness of Taiwanese manufacturers. With such accomplishments, Prof. Chen has undoubtedly made significant contributions to Taiwan's precision manufacturing and automation industries. Please refer to the TECO Award interview for more information about Prof. Chen’s achievements.

Upon its establishment in 1993, the TECO Technology Foundation immediately set up the “TECO Science and Technology Award,” hoping to incentivize those who have made exceptional contributions to Taiwan’s scientific and technological R&D and to arouse attention to the importance of technological innovation to the development of the society and the country as a whole. In the sixth year, the Humanities Award category was added to attach importance to the complementary development of humanities and science/technology, with the vision of building a progressive society where humanities and technology are mutually emphasized. Thus, in the 11th year, the award was officially renamed the “TECO AWARD.” Over the past 29 years, the TECO AWARD has been awarded to 169 outstanding individuals, 17 of whom are COE faculty members.
