The 14th AOTULE Conference (2019)

2019 AOTULE (Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering) Conference was held by Tokyo Institute of Technology on November 25th, 2019. Totally 5 attendees from NTU was led by Dean Wen-Chang Chen (陳文章) of CoE, including Prof. Hung-Wei (Homer) (顏鴻威) Yen, Executive Director for International Affairs and Associate Dean Ai-Chun Pang (逄愛君) of CoEECS. In addition to the academic interaction between the deans, associate deans, and faculties from member colleges, “AOTULE Student Conference” was also held for representative students to have academic seminars for further discussion and cooperation. Through the annual conference, all member colleges have the opportunity and platform to proceed further interaction and cooperation. Dean Chen of CoE has become the vice chair of the Steering Committee starting from 2020, and NTU will hold the 16th AOTULE Conference in 2021.

The MoU of Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering, AOTULE was signed in 2007. So far, there are totally 13 members including University of Melbourne in Australia, Tsinghua University Beijing, National Taiwan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, University of Malaya in Malaysia, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam, Indian Institute of Technology Madras and University of Sri Lanka. The cooperation between the members include: (1) annual dean’s meeting (2) annual academic seminars (3) exchange student program (4) exchange of faculty or staff (5) exchange of academic achievement (6) other academic interaction and program.

Tokyo Institute of Technology has started to hold summer program for students since 2008, and NTU has selected students to attend the program for many years. The organizer provides the subsidy of flight tickets and living expenses in the program period for 75~90 days. The participants have great feedback on the fruitful acquisition of knowledge and the unforgettable mutual learning experiences with students from other schools. Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia has also started to hold summer cultural program in 2014, providing 2 to 3-week courses and free housing for participating students. Various activities including engineering seminars, cultural field trips, and industry visiting are offered in the summer program.
