With a passion for researching and teaching, Professor Fuh-Kuo Chen (陳復國) of Mechanical Engineering has been dedicated to the study and practical application of metal forming for more than 30 years. He is the first to introduce CAE simulation technology into the industrial application of metal forming. This technology considerably enhanced the global competitiveness of domestic metal forming manufacturers as it improves their mold design capabilities and reduces mold development time. Professor Chen’s research results are not only applied to product manufacturing in the domestic metal industry but also widely cited by international scholars. Some of his significant research results include the establishment of experimental platform and mold design technology for the hot stamping of ultra-high-strength steel, micro-forming technology and test methods of micro-size metals, tube hydroforming and stamping of magnesium-aluminum alloy computer housings.

In addition, Professor Chen is actively involved industry and academic collaborations and has assisted in many establishments of OEM and AM R&D alliances between businesses and domestic automotive sheet metal stamping companies. Alliances facilitated by Professor Chen are very fruitful and include businesses in the automobile, motorcycle, steel, aerospace, electronics, and mold industries.

Prof. Kuo-Lun (Allan) Tung (童國倫, right) of Chemical Engineering Received the Award from Honorary Chairman Chen-Hsiung Hou (侯貞雄, middle) and Chairman Henry Chieh-Teng Ho (侯傑騰, left) of TUNG HO STEEL ENTERPRISE CORP. (東和鋼鐵集團)

Prof. Kuo-Lun (Allan) Tung (童國倫) of Chemical Engineering has cultivated in membrane separation technology application in water resource and environmental protection for over 20 years, developing inorganic composite membranes which can recycle and reuse wastewater and solvents through the membrane. Besides, Prof. Tung firstly use in-situ optical detection system to measure the growth of membrane fouling, which can effectively extend the life of the membrane, and received Futuristic Breakthrough Technology Award, MOST recently. Many of the membrane separation technology from Prof. Tung’s research team already have the potential for commercialization and have been approved by “Taiwan Reputed University Startups to Taiwan Unicorns (TRUST-U), MOST”, which is the first approved large-scale TRUST-U Project of NTU with high competitiveness in the international market.

Prof. Tung's academic performance is remarkable, and he has published more than 200 journal articles with excellent quality and international recognition. He puts emphasis on both "academic theoretical research" and "engineering application practice," turning ideas into practical commercial patents. So far, Prof. Tung has achieved more than 20 invention patents and many technology transfers with outstanding performance in academic research, technology development, international management, industry-university cooperation, and team leadership in environmental protection. This year, Prof. Tung is even invited to be the Editor of Journal Separation and Purification Technology (S&PT), showing his great performance and international influence in related fields.

Hou Jindui Distinguished Honor Award was supported by TUNG HO STEEL ENTERPRISE CORP. (東和鋼鐵集團) and setup in 1991 by THS Foundation (頤賢文教基金會) [foundation name changed from Hou Jindui Foundation (侯金堆先生文教基金會) in 2021] to encourage people who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to the education & research of basic science and technology in the four major fields: “Basic Science”, “Material Science”, “Metal Smelting” and “Environmental Protection” (“Green Buildings” was added in 2006). This glorious benchmark and honor has rewarded 161 outstanding individuals and 1 private unit starting from its setup.
