Distinguished Prof. Chung-Wen LAN (藍崇文) of Chemical Engineering Department receives the 19th Y.Z. HSU Science Award in “Green Science & Technology” category (第19屆有庠科技講座綠色科技類) from Far Eastern Y. Z. HSU Science and Technology Memorial Foundation. The foundation was established to commemorate the Far Eastern Group's late founder, Mr. Y. Z. HSU and to encourage breeding high tech research and development talents, providing assistance for improving industrial competitiveness with technology innovation. The Y.Z. HSU Science Award is given to outstanding professors in mainly five categories: “Nano Science & Technology”, “Information and Communication Science & Technology”, "Optoelectronics Science & Technology”, “Biomedical Science & Technology” and “Green Science & Technology”.

Prof. LAN has been committed to the research of silicon crystal materials for a long time and becomes an important international expert in this field. His research fields include silicon materials and applications, photovoltaic technology, and crystal growth, especially the breakthroughs and innovations in the analysis and simulation of high-efficiency polycrystalline technology, and  crystal growth mechanism, which greatly improves the production and battery efficiency, and reduces the cost of green energy.

In addition, Prof. LAN also serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Blue star advanced materials Co., Ltd.(藍星材料), mainly developing SiOx/C materials. The technology transfer to Giga Solar Materials Corp. (碩禾電子) has begun mass production, opening a new page in the industry of cathode materials for high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. With these outstanding contributions, Prof. deserves the great honor of "Y.Z. HSU Science Award".
