Renewable Energy Technology Innovation- The Forum for Dr. Steven Chu’s Taiwan Visit

College of Engineering, National Taiwan University, Ministry of Science and Technology, MOST, and Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, TIER co-hosted “Renewable Energy Technology Innovation Forum” on Jan. 24th, 2019 at NTU Lecture Hall (Shih-Liang Chien Lecture Hall), inviting Nobel winner, Academician Steven Chu (朱棣文) to Taiwan to give a speech in the forum. Dr. Steven Chu also had discussion and academic interaction with Minister Liang-Gee Chen (陳良基), MOST and some well-known scholars in energy technology filed to explore the possibility of renewable energy development in the future from the technology research and development perspective, hoping to make Taiwan renewable energy technology more powerful and be able to provide more technical support and innovation motion in global energy development in the future.

In the forum, Academician Steven Chu gave the speech “Climate Change Risks and Technical Paths to a Sustainable Future” to explore the future development of renewable energy technology and how to create a sustainable environment. Besides, Academician Steven Chu also shared the practical experience of Stanford University in using renewable energy to reach a low carbon campus. After that, Dean Wen-Chang Chen (陳文章), College of Engineering, NTU hosted the academic interaction between  Academician Steven Chu and Minister Liang-Gee Chen, and at the same time, had enthusiastic discussion with the participants of the forum.

After the forum, Academician Steven Chu and Minister Liang-Gee Chen shared their experience and opinions of domestic and international energy innovation in the topics of climate changes, renewable energy technology, and artificial intelligence through the live broadcast over internet. Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) hopes to expand the development of Taiwan’ s energy science education though the spread of new media technology.
