Department of Engineering Science & Ocean Engineering Hosts High School Science Camp to Breed Talents for Offshore Wind Power Technology

Start the Green Energy in Taiwan- Let Offshore Wind Power Talk!

In recent years, the government has been committed to the development of renewable energy and actively promoted offshore wind power. It is expected that this industry will have rapid development and requires a lot of talents in this field. Since the public has limited understanding of offshore wind power, in 2019 summer vacation, Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering and Ship and Ocean Technology Research Center hosted the science camp of offshore wind power for high school students in Changhua and NTU. The activities included keynote speeches, assembly of wind power generator, wind tunnel test, and on-site navigation and introduction of wind turbines and wind power stations.

Through this camp, the participants were able to understand the current status and future development of offshore wind power. And through the introduction and navigation of wind turbines, they got better understanding about the facility installation, operation, maintenance, and the benefits of carbon reduction. This camp attracted a lot of applicants, and received the recognition of attendees and local people. The positive feedbacks from participants made the organizer and staffs feel their hard works paid off. The big success of this event not only recognizes the organizer’s hard works but also states the fact that universities have a lot of room to promote science education.
