The Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ), with over 10,000 members now, was established in 1951, and SPSJ International Award was set up in 1994 for awarding scholars with outstanding achievement in polymer science and technology. The award will be presented to 3 winners at most every year, which is the most honorable award from SPSJ to foreigner scholars. Dean Chen was awarded by his “Contributions to the Development of the Organic Polymers and Nanostructured Materials for Electronic and Optoelectronic Applications” and was invited to give a keynote speech on his awarded achievement on May 29th, and to attend the Award Ceremony on May 30th .

Dean Chen has devoted to the design, synthesis, property control and device application of functional polymers, block copolymers, and polymer nanocomposites for electronics and photonics for a long time. So far in his academic career, Dean Chen has obtained 55 invention patents and published 365 papers with numerous citation numbers (h-index: 60), in which 17 are chosen as the front cover or back cover story, including Adv. Mater., Adv. Eng. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Small, and J. Mater. Chem. A. Dean Chen’s abundant research achievement are also awarded with the following honors including Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Grand Prize (2018), Academic Award from the Ministry of Education (2016), The 13th Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor (2015), Fellow, Royal Society of Chemistry (2014), Hou Chin-Tui Award (material science) (2013), 2013 TECO Award, and 3 times National Science Council Outstanding Research Award (2004, 2009, 2012). Besides, Dean Chen has been invited to be the plenary speaker/invited speaker for 62 times.
