To facilitate the research of disaster prevention technology, and to turn Taiwan into an earthquake-resistant homeland with better earthquake reduction and post-earthquake recovery, NTU Civil Engineering works with NCREE and Ruentex Group to use the additional construction of NCREE as the demonstration of intelligent disaster prevention. With the implement of seismic reinforcement technology and intelligent earthquake reporting, a “smart earthquake resistance building” is created. The prevention of earthquake is reinforced by structural strength before it happens. During earthquake, the warning notice is issued and emergent response (such as automatic elevator parking, evacuation guidance activation, main power shut down to avoid fire) is activated. At the same time, the automatic monitoring on the building of post-earthquake response is turned on for effective and fast structural safety evaluation after the earthquake. With all key information in hand, the smart strategies for earthquake prevention can be provided to the public for disaster risk control.

The donation and opening ceremony of NCREE additional construction was held on Nov. 9th, 2020, hosted by NTU President Chung-Ming Kuan (管中閔). The construction is donated by Chairman Samuel (Yen-Liang) Yin (尹衍樑) of Ruentex Group (潤泰集團) to Civil Engineering Department. With the participation and witness of Chairman Yin, President Wu (吳光鐘) of NARLabs and other guests on the milestone of Taiwan earthquake technology, NTU Civil Engineering will continue to cooperate with NCREE to develop advanced earthquake-resistant reinforcement and new technologies for seismic protection.
