2024 Fall Semester (First semester)

Duration of Study

Students can choose one semester (fall/spring) or one academic year.

Application Procedure

Partner schools shall send out nominations first, stating the prospective student’s name, gender, major, and level of study. An application package will be sent via email after nominations are received.

    - Accident insurance worth a minimum of TWD 1,000,000
    - Medical insurance worth a minimum of TWD 1,000,000

Language Proficiency Requirement

We do not have a specific English Proficiency or GPA requirement for exchange students. However, students who are not native Chinese speakers are expected to have a good command in English for their study and daily life at NTU.

Courses Conducted in English

Currently, the College of Engineering offers about 100 courses taught in English each academic year; however, most are graduate-level courses. Please refer to NTU Course Information: https://nol.ntu.edu.tw/

English courses offered by other colleges can also be found in the NTU Course Information.

Language Courses

No language programs are offered before the semester starts.

However, all NTU exchange students are eligible to take an NTU General Chinese Course while studying at NTU, a regular academic course with credits. Students are assigned to an appropriate level after a placement test. Credit Requirements

NTU requires exchange students to enroll in at least 2 courses or 4 credits per semester. Students should also meet the requirements of their home universities.

Areas of study available for exchange students

All exchange students can take courses offered by departments or institutes outside of their majors. NTU Online Course Information can be found at https://nol.ntu.edu.tw/ .

Areas of study NOT available for exchange students

The following courses are not open to exchange students:

  1. Practicum courses offered by all departments.
  2. Practice courses offered by the Department of Chemistry
  3. All GMBA required/core courses
  4. All EMBA and EIMBA courses - Courses offered by Center for Teaching Education and all Academic Programs (學分學程)
  5. School of Professional Education and Continuing Studies (進修推廣學院)
  6. Summer Session (暑修) and Summer College (夏季學院) courses

Arrival and Orientation

Recommended Arrival Dates

Students are recommended to arrive one week before the start of the semester classes (Week 0) and attend Orientation Week.

Welcome Orientation Week

The orientation for international students takes place in Week 0.

Housing Information

On-campus Housing

Due to the limited number of dormitory rooms, on-campus housing is applicable but not guaranteed to all exchange students.

Visa

What kind of visa do the students need to obtain?

Before entering Taiwan, students are responsible for applying for a proper visa from the Taiwanese Embassy in their residence country with letters of acceptance (Chinese version only) from NTU. Look up Embassies and Missions( https://en.mofa.gov.tw/ ) closest to them.

 

Please note that if students fail to obtain visas issued by Taiwanese Embassies or are rejected, the exchange student identity will also be canceled.

 

If students are Mainland China Passport holders, they will have to apply for an Entry Permit (入臺證) through the assistance of NTU.

Are International students allowed to work?

Exchange students are not allowed to work in Taiwan because they do not fulfill the work permit requirements. Students who hold a job without a work permit can be fined TWD 30,000 to 150,000. However, it is acceptable for students to complete an unpaid internship or volunteer work.

Campus Life Information

Required Fee

Campus Internet Access Fee TWD 600 per semester, required for EVERY student on campus.

Insurance Policy Requirements

Students are required to purchase their insurance in their home country before traveling to Taiwan.

Please provide proof of insurance in Chinese or English valid for your entire exchange period for the following:

- Accident insurance worth a minimum of TWD 1,000,000

- Medical insurance worth a minimum of TWD 1,000,000

Estimate cost of living for ONE MONTH

Housing: On-campus Dormitory: TWD 11,700/month (maximum)

Meals: TWD 8,750/month

Texts/ Supplies: TWD 1,625/month

Public transportation: TWD 1,250/month

Entertainment & Miscellaneous: TWD 3,750 /month

Possible Self-initiated Prevention Fee: TWD 4,000 /month
