has many well equipped laboratiories for graduate research work. Some of
them are: biosensor laboratory, bioceramic lab, biopdymer lab,
gait-analysis lab, drug delivery system lab, imaging process lab, signal
process lab, biomechanics lab, centralt relevant eqeuipments, the
instrumental analysis lab, and handicap device center provide service to
all our faculty members for their research and teaching needs. The PROGRAMS OF STUDY Master's Degree Biomedical Engineering (3) Special Topics in Biomedical Engineering (4) Seminar in Biomedical Engineering (6) Anatomical Physiology (For engineering graduates) (3) ACADEMY-INDUSTRY LINK The institute
has some of research fruit to be transferred to local compamy or
industry to promote the biomedical engineeing in RESEARCH / DEVELOPMENT The main
mission of the Institute is to promote activities of teaching, research
and development in biomedical engineering.
Active research projects are sponsored by various public and
private agents, such as, National Science Council, Department of Health,
National Health Research Institute, Industrial Technological Research
Institute, and (1) Biomaterials: Research fields include metal, ceramics, polymers, biological materials, and drug delivery systems. The developments of bioactive bone cement, bioglass ceramic and composite resin are applied in orthopedic surgery and dental restoratives. Polymer research is focused on the membrane technology for the improvement of kidney dialysis system. The research of biological materials emphasizes on tissue engineering and its based biomaterials. The applications are artificial pancreas, artificial cartilage, artificial skin, drug delivery mediators, etc. In addition, our researches also cover the application of various biomaterials in artificial organs and in drug deliverly system as well. (2) Biomechanical Engineering: Major research projects are related to the design and develop-ment of assistant devices for the disable and elderly people. The control group is also working on clinical investigation of computer control of anesthesia systems. (3) Clinical Engineering: The main goal is to execute and supervise medical care quality and to plan safety and risk of medical equip-ment. We hope to make sure that the use of medical equipment is legitimate. (4) Integrated Cardiac-Pulmonary Physiological Monitoring System: The system can connect each medical instrument by using computer. Moreover, on the basis of integrated data, we can set up expert system to assist medical staff. (5) Hyperthermia Research: The whole research is divided into five parts: methods of ultra sound heating design, fabrication, and evaluation of ultrasound transducers; control of ultrasound hyperthermia treatments; thermal modeling and treatment planning; clinical trials of ultrasound hyperthermia. (6) Optic Card System: the charcteristics of large memory and undeletable are very useful in building the medical data system and controlling insurance expenses. (7) Bioelectronics: Analog and Digital circuit design and fabrication through PCB or inte-grated circuit processes. (8) Bioinstrumentation: Smart sensor system, Artificial neural networks for nonin-vasive blood glucose monitoring, Electro-physiological system, Auto-matic testing system for cardiac monitor, Ambulatory blood pressure moni-toring system, Body surface mapping system. (9) Bioimage: Major research foci are on medical image reconstruction theory, medical image analysis, computer assisted diagnosis and therapeutics, automatic ultrasound image segmen-tation and tissue characterization.
