NTU College of Engineering 80th Anniversary Celebration｜Honoring Eight Decades of Engineering Excellence and Envisioning a Century of Innovation

The College of Engineering, National Taiwan University (NTU) held its 80th Anniversary Celebration Ceremony on the morning of November 14, 2025, at the 203 Lecture Hall, Building of College of Engineering, NTU. Distinguished guests from academia and industry, alumni, faculty members, and students gathered to reflect on the College’s significant milestones since its founding and to envision a bold and innovative path toward its next century.

The ceremony commenced with welcoming remarks by Dean Mao-Hsiung CHIANG, who reviewed the College’s major achievements over the past 80 years in engineering education, fundamental and applied research, industry–academia collaboration, and international engagement. He expressed sincere gratitude to former faculty members, alumni, and corporate partners for their long-standing support and dedication, which have enabled the College of Engineering to grow steadily and continue innovating.

 

 

The event was followed by remarks from President Wen-Chang CHEN, who affirmed the College’s outstanding contributions to national technological advancement and the cultivation of key engineering talent. President CHEN encouraged the College to further strengthen international connections and interdisciplinary integration amid rapid global technological changes, and to continue playing a leading role in engineering education and research.

Following the ceremony, a group photo was taken before participants proceeded to the foyer of the College of Engineering Building for the opening of the 80th Anniversary Special Exhibition. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by President Wen-Chang CHEN, Dean Mao-Hsiung CHIANG, Secretary-General Da-Ming WANG, Former Deans Yeong-Bin YANG and Huan-Jang KEH, Distinguished Professors of NTU, and Mr. Min-Neng KUO, Chairman of Huang Yuann Construction Co.

Under the theme “Technological Development ‧ Sustainable Innovation,” the exhibition showcased key milestones, representative research achievements, and significant outcomes of industry–academia collaborations since the College’s establishment. The exhibition illustrated how the College has responded to national needs and driven technological progress across different eras.

The opening event also featured a dynamic demonstration of AI robotic dogs presented by Prof. Chung-Hsien KUO of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, showcasing recent achievements in intelligent mechatronics, autonomous systems, and interdisciplinary applications, which drew great interest from attendees.

The event then returned to the main venue, where Dean CHIANG delivered a keynote presentation titled “Eighty Years of Development at the College of Engineering,” providing a systematic review of the founding of each department, the accumulation of research capacity, and the expansion of international collaborations. The presentation underscored the College’s academic depth and industrial impact over the past eight decades.

The Chair Professorship and Academic Award Presentation Ceremony then commenced, recognizing faculty members for outstanding achievements in teaching, research, and service, and expressing appreciation to corporate partners for their long-term support of higher engineering education.

The honors presented included the TSUNG Cho-Chang Chair, the Qinglang·Chanda Chemical Chair, the Pin-Yen Chair, the Min-Neng KUO Chair, as well as the C SUN Outstanding Scholar Award, GPM Outstanding Scholar Award, GMM Outstanding Scholar Award, and Symtek Outstanding Scholar Award. Award recipients represented a wide range of disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Applied Mechanics, fully demonstrating the College’s diverse and robust research strengths. Several corporate representatives also delivered remarks, affirming the College’s long-standing contributions to industry–academia collaboration and the cultivation of advanced engineering talent.

The celebration concluded with free networking among participants and visits to the College History Special Exhibition and the NTU Museum of Engineering. Through valuable archival materials, physical exhibits, and multimedia displays, guests gained deeper insight into the College’s key moments and developmental trajectory over the past 80 years.

Dean CHIANG remarked that the College will continue to advance comprehensively in infrastructure, research capacity, international engagement, and educational innovation, working closely with industry and society to address emerging challenges in sustainability and technological innovation, and to cultivate future engineers equipped with global perspectives, interdisciplinary integration skills, and strong hands-on capabilities.
