2024 NTU Engineering Entrepreneur Lectureships

To recognize outstanding individuals with exceptional credentials in starting or running their own businesses, in 2012, the College of Engineering (CoE) drew up the NTU Engineering Entrepreneur Lectureship Selection Criteria. Over the years, many outstanding individuals have been selected for the Lectureship.
The 2024 NTU Engineering Entrepreneur Lectureships were awarded to two recipients, including Chairman Ming-Nen KUO of Huang Yuann Construction Co., Ltd. and Chair Hsin-Ming KAO of Marketech International Corp. The Lectureships were awarded in recognition of the recipients' outstanding performance in their respective fields, which can serve as role models for their peers and the younger generations in the industry.
Chairman Ming-Nen KUO and Chair Hsin-Ming KAO visited the CoE and delivered a keynote speech on September 18 and December 4 (2024), respectively, sharing their valuable entrepreneurial experiences and tips to grow together with the enterprise with all COE faculty members and students.

Brief introduction to Chairman KUO
Chairman Ming-Nen KUO graduated from the NTU Graduate Institute of Civil Engineering in 1976. With his strong expertise in architecture, he passed the exam and joined the public sector, serving for a total of 13 years in the (Provincial) Office of Housing and Urban Development —the predecessor of the Ministry of the Interior's National Land Management Agency, formerly the Construction and Planning Agency—as well as the Public Works Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government . During his service, Chairman KUO played a significant role in supervising the construction of the Minzu Overpass in Kaohsiung City and designing the Kaiyuan Overpass in Tainan City. He also contributed to Kaohsiung's first comprehensive urban plan review and oversaw the widening of Bo-Ai Road, Tongmeng Road, Dazhong Road, and Minzu Road to 40 meters. Additionally, he was actively involved in the Kaohsiung MRT Project and the initial planning of its route network. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored as one of the National Top Ten Outstanding Young Engineers in 1986. After leaving public office in 1988, Chairman KUO pursued his passion for the construction industry. He began as the general manager of a small-scale construction company, gaining valuable experience over three years. In 1991, he founded Huang Yuann Construction Co., Ltd., which has thrived for over 30 years ever since. Under his leadership, the company has become a leading brand in Kaohsiung's luxury housing market.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chairman KUO has made profound and lasting contributions to the University. For instance, he served as the vice chair of the NTU Alumni Association for six years since 2011, and made kind donations each year to support its activities, actively participating in University anniversary and social activities for NTU alumni as well as dedicated visits to overseas alumni associations. Chairman KUO's enthusiasm for service is highly respected by alumni at home and abroad. At the special request of the Alumni Association, Chairman KUO also assisted in the operation and management of the Alumni Hall. In addition to leveraging his own architectural expertise, he also contributed a handsome amount of funds. When NTU seeks the support of its alumni, Chairman KUO will unhesitatingly rally them to contribute and assist.
Over the years, Chairman KUO has been awarded many significant honors, including the National Top Ten Outstanding Young Engineers, the FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards , the Chinese Architectural Golden Stone Award , the Kaohsiung-Pingtung Region Special Contribution Award, and the Kaohsiung City Top Ten Outstanding Citizens, demonstrating Chairman KUO's exceptional achievements in engineering, architecture, and dedication to the public.

A brief introduction to Chair KAO
Chair Hsin-Ming KAO is one of only a few female leaders in the semiconductor industry. She founded Marketech International Corp. in 1988. In the beginning, Marketech focused on products and materials for semiconductor factory settings. In addition to designing and manufacturing products, Marketech later entered the field of factory services and process systems with higher added value. Currently, it is a supply chain member of internationally renowned manufacturers such as ASML and Applied Materials , showcasing Marketech's pivotal role as an important supplier of the global semiconductor industry of today.
Chair KAO has a meticulous mindset and values her employees and the corporate culture of Marketech, where she actively cultivates talents and recruits teams to establish a culture that encourages innovation and technology and provides internal training programs for talents to enhance product design and technical capabilities. By implementing ISO and internal control standard operating procedures, she has helped the company accumulate abundant professional experience and R&D results, create a positive corporate culture, and focus on sustainable business operations. She also underscores the company's mission of "becoming a customer-oriented, all-round technology service leader," striving to fulfill social responsibilities while fostering a sustainable and thriving enterprise.
Chair KAO's outstanding performance won her the honor of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year for Optimizing Co-Prosperity in 2023, and she represented Taiwan in the ultimate global competition of "2024 EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year ."
