NTU Racing unveils its next-generation race car, Epsilon 4.

NTU Racing, a car racing team composed of students from various departments at NTU, held a new car unveiling event on July 8. The team unveiled their latest creation, the all-new fourth-generation race car called “Epsilon 4,” which was designed and built by the students themselves over the course of a year. Compared to its predecessor, the Epsilon 4 features a battery module designed by the students, lighter vehicle weight, stronger structural integrity, and enhanced stability with added bottom plate and anti-roll bars. It can reach a top speed of 96 kilometers per hour. The racing team also participated in Formula Student Taiwan (FST), a car racing tournament, held from July 16 to 18, competing with outstanding teams from various universities across Taiwan. Thanks to the high completion level of their vehicle, NTU Racing achieved an impressive first-place position in the competition.

Professor Kuei-Yuan Chan (詹魁元), the advising professor of NTU Racing and a faculty member from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, mentioned that the team mainly consists of students from the mechanical engineering department. However, there are also students from various other fields, including electrical engineering, life sciences, accounting, and history, who actively participate in the team. He stated that over the past five years, the team has accumulated significant experience and now possesses a stable capability of creating their own electric race cars. Nevertheless, they hope for continuous support from both industry and the University to enable students to shine and excel in the industry.

Executive Vice President Shih-Torng Ding (丁詩同) expressed that the process of NTU Racing building electric race cars and participating in international competitions embodies the University’s aspiration for its students to showcase their talents, pursue their dreams, and connect with the global community while embodying important values such as altruism. He emphasized that the ability of NTU students and faculty to step beyond theory and textbooks and demonstrate problem-solving skills is a significant realization of the University’s ideals. He also expressed gratitude to the sponsoring companies for their support in making these dreams come true.

NTU Racing has set its sights on the largest international student formula car racing competition in the Asian region, the Formula SAE Japan (FSAE-J), for the year 2024. They aim to participate in this event, where universities and graduate students challenge themselves to conceptualize, design, and manufacture small formula cars. The competition provides a platform for global teams to exchange ideas, compete, and gain exposure, fostering the integration of academic knowledge and practical skills. The team seeks to further refine their technical expertise and knowledge through this experience, striving for even better performance in the competition.
