19th Asia Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE)

The 19th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE) was successfully held on November 6-7, 2024, at Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia. With the theme “Engineering for Sustainability,” this year’s conference brought together leading engineering institutions from across Asia and Oceania to foster collaboration and address global sustainability challenges.

Representing National Taiwan University, Associate Dean Tzong-Lin (Jay) Shieh from College of Engineering and Associate Dean Jian-Jang Huang from College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science attended the Dean’s Meeting, while graduate student Shiue-Min Shih from the Department of Chemical Engineering participated in the student conference. Shiue-Min Shih’s presentation on “Future Transit: Smart Minibus System” earned second place in the 2024 AOTULE Student Conference group presentation competition, showcasing the innovative capabilities and international competitiveness of NTU students.

The AOTULE alliance, established in 2007, brings together top engineering schools across Asia and Oceania to enhance the quality of engineering education and research, while fostering international collaboration. The alliance currently includes 13 leading institutions: the University of Melbourne (Australia), Tsinghua University (China), National Taiwan University (Taiwan), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong), Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia), Institute of Science Tokyo (Japan), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Korea), University of Malaya (Malaysia), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), Indian Institute of Technology Madras (India), and the University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka).

As the sole representative from Taiwan, our College of Engineering and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science actively participate in the alliance’s initiatives, which include: Annual Deans’ Meetings; Joint Academic Conferences; Student Exchange Programs; Faculty and Staff Exchanges; Academic Information and Research Sharing; Other collaborative academic activities.

The AOTULE 2025 will be hosted by Tsinghua University in Beijing, while National Taiwan University is set to host the conference in 2028. These future gatherings promise to further enhance international cooperation and academic exchange.
